Starting 2026 Together - Read through the Bible with Me!

Hello, Friend.

If you’ve followed my journey for a while, you know that I love stories. I’ve spent years digging into the past to write historical fiction, and I’ve spent just as much time digging into the messy, beautiful reality of raising a large family.

But lately, I’ve felt a craving for something more than just “updates” or the fleeting nature of social media feeds. I wanted a place where we could sit down, pour a cup of coffee, and actually talk.

Why Now?

In my book Walk It Out, I wrote about the disconnect between knowing what we believe and actually living it. I noted, “We can fill our heads with the Word of God, but if we don’t let it change our hearts and our hands, we are missing the point.”

Social media is great for filling our heads with information, but it is rarely the place where heart-change happens. I want this newsletter to be a community where we move beyond scrolling and start connecting. I want this to be a place where we figure out how to live out our God-given stories in a world that is often loud and distracting.

What You Can Expect

This isn’t just another newsletter to clog your inbox. Think of this as a weekly letter from my kitchen table to yours. Here is what we will explore together:

  • Behind the Scenes of the Books: I’ll share the historical research that fascinates me—the “truth” behind the fiction—especially the WWII stories that remind us of courage in dark times.

  • The Grumble-Free Life: As I shared in The Grumble-Free Year, changing the atmosphere of our hearts changes the atmosphere of our homes. We will talk honestly about parenting, marriage, and finding joy in the chaos.

  • Faith in Action: Practical encouragement to trust God with the impossible, just as I’ve had to learn through adoption, writing, and stepping out in faith.

  • Healthy Living: For a long time, I was stuck in my health journey, trying to do it all alone. But I learned that transformation happens in community. I’ll be sharing principles from my journey as a health coach, focusing on the Habits of Health that help us go from stuck to unstoppable. We’ll talk about fueling our bodies, renewing our minds, and why getting healthy is actually a spiritual discipline that allows us to serve God better.

  • Bible Reading: If you’ve ever felt intimidated by the Bible, you are safe here. I’ll be sharing insights from The Daily Bible Podcast and our community’s journey through the Word. We’ll look at how to make Bible reading a “doable” daily rhythm rather than a daunting chore, using a chronological plan that helps us see the big picture of God’s redemptive story.

Let’s Read The Bible Together in 2026!

Which “Bible Reading Personality” Are You? (And How to Finally Stick with It in 2026!)

We have all been there. It’s January 1st. You have a fresh notebook, a pristine Bible, and big dreams. You think, “This is the year I read the whole thing.”

But by February... Leviticus happens. Or life happens. And suddenly, that goal feels like a heavy backpack you are dragging around.

Here is the secret I’ve learned: The problem usually isn’t your discipline. It’s your plan matching your personality.

Yes, I believe we have Bible Reading Personalities. When you find the one that fits how your brain works, reading God’s Word stops feeling like a chore and starts feeling like a lifeline.

This year, I am offering two ways to read with me (The Daily Bible Podcast vs. The Monday Meetup). But before you pick a track, let’s figure out who you are!

🧩 The 3 Bible Reading Personalities

See if you can spot yourself in one of these profiles.

1. The “Time Traveler” 🕰️

  • Your Vibe: You love context. You ask questions like, “Wait, who is this king’s father?” and “Where is this on a map?” You get frustrated when the Bible jumps around. You want to see the big picture of history unfold like a movie script.
  • Your Struggle: Getting lost in the timelines or feeling like the Bible is a jumbled collection of disconnected stories.
  • Your Perfect Plan: Chronological. You need to read events in the order they happened.

2. The “Heart Connector” ❤️

  • Your Vibe: You love variety. If you get stuck in a long list of laws or genealogies, your eyes glaze over. You need a daily dose of encouragement (a Psalm) and practical wisdom (a Proverb) mixed in with the history. You want to feel something today.
  • Your Struggle: Boredom. If the reading feels too dry or heavy for too many days in a row, you check out.

3. The “Life Editor” 🛠️

  • Your Vibe: You are practical. You read a verse and immediately ask, “Okay, but what do I DO with this?” You don’t just want knowledge; you want transformation. You want to fix what’s broken and live out the truth now.
  • Your Struggle: Abstract theology. If a study stays in the “head” and never moves to the “hands” or “heart,” you feel like it was a waste of time.
  • Your Perfect Plan: Deep Study & Application. You need a Bible that bridges the gap between ancient history and your modern problems.

📚 The Tools: Which Bible Should You Buy?

Once you know your type, you need the right gear. Here are my top 3 recommendations for 2025, matched to your personality.

For the Time Traveler:

📖 The One Year Chronological Bible (Tyndale) This is the Bible we use for The Daily Bible Podcast. It rearranges the 66 books of the Bible into 365 daily readings based on when the events actually took place.

  • Why you’ll love it: You finally understand how the Psalms fit into David’s life or how the Prophets fit into the timeline of the Kings. It connects the dots!

For the Heart Connector:

📖 The One Year Bible for Women (Tyndale) This is the Bible we will be using for the Monday Meetup group! (Or for Men!)

  • Why you’ll love it: It uses the Traditional plan. Every day, you get a variety of Scripture, so you never get bogged down. Plus, this specific edition for women includes encouraging devotionals that speak right to your heart.

For the Life Editor:

📖 The Life Application Study Bible (Tyndale) If you are tired of just “reading” and want to start “changing,” this is the gold standard. I cannot recommend this Bible enough for those who want to go deep.

Why is this Bible different? Most study Bibles focus heavily on history or cultural facts. The Life Application Study Bible has that scholarship, but it doesn’t stop there. Its primary goal is to help you “find true heart transformation”.

Here is what makes it a powerhouse for the “Life Editor”:

  • From Knowing to Living: It is designed to move you beyond just knowing Scripture to actually living it out.
  • The 3-Step Notes: It has nearly 10,000 notes that guide you through a specific process: (1) Look back at the story, (2) Bridge the gap to today, and (3) Show you practical ways to apply that truth to your life.
  • Massive Resources: It includes over 100 profiles of Bible characters (to see how their lives relate to yours), 500+ maps and charts for visual learners, and clear book introductions to use as a compass.

Whether you are 9 or 90, this Bible is crafted to help you encounter God and experience “profound transformation.”

Pick Your Track for 2025

Now that you know your Type and your Tool, choose your community!

🎙️ Track 1: The Daily Bible Podcast

  • Best for: The Time Traveler & The Life Editor
  • The Plan: Chronological (History order)
  • The Commitment: Daily video/audio episodes + email.
  • Why: We dive deep into the history and the “why.” If you want to master the timeline of God’s story, join us here.

☕️ Track 2: The Monday Meetup (New!)

  • Best for: The Heart Connector & The Busy Mom
  • The Plan: One Year Bible (Variety plan)
  • The Commitment: Weekly check-ins.
  • Why: This is our “low pressure” coffee shop vibe. We read The One Year Bible for Women, and we meet up on Substack every Monday to discuss one question. It’s about connection, encouragement, and staying the course together.

So... which personality are you? Are you a Time Traveler, a Heart Connector, or a Life Editor? Reply and let me know!

❤️ A Love Story Worth Celebrating ❤️ Hello Reader, Big news! My dear friends, Bryan & Jennie, are finalists in America’s Favorite Couple! Out of 200,000 couples nationwide, they’ve made it into the top 200—the top 1%! 🙌 This milestone is especially close to my heart because I’m currently writing their second-chance love story into a novel. It will release later this year, and trust me—you’re going to fall in love with their journey of heartbreak, hope, and redemption. Bryan and Jennie Me and...

A bedside vigil, a legacy of faith, and a way you can help Dear Reader, The sun hasn’t quite decided what kind of day it wants to be. It streaks Grandma Lita’s bedroom with half‑light. I’m sitting at the side of her bed, coffee gone cold, heart warm, watching her chest rise and fall to the soft hiss of the oxygen machine. Every now and then, she stirs, eyes fluttering, and I wonder if she’s catching a glimpse of the glory that waited just beyond Papa’s Montana window all those years ago. Papa...

Hi Reader! For me, 2023 was The Year Everything Changed: I was homeschooling four kids (one was in the graduation year!), writing books, speaking at conferences, loving my husband, and caring for my grandmother. My grandma had lived with us since 1999, but in 2022 she had a massive blood clot in her lung and stroke, so the caregiving ratcheted up about 10xs the work. We’d gotten through a lot of the hard adoption stuff, but we still had one adult daughter home, one graduating teen, and three...
